When we first started this path, we started learning not only about the types of fabrics available but also about how they were made and under what standards. After knowing the impact that fast fashions and synthetic fabrics have on the environment, it became clear for us that we wanted to use the best organic cotton available for the pajamas that we were designing and also one that had been harvest under safe conditions for both the planet and the farmers.
We decided to partner with Bergman Rivera who was the first company in Latin America to be certified under Global Organic Textile Standard (G.O.T.S), from the field to the finished garment. And we have worked non-stop with them ever since.
The Global Organic Textile Standard is comprised of four reputed member organizations namely OTA (USA), IVN (Germany), Soil Association (UK), and JOCA (Japan), which contribute their respective expertise in organic farming and environmentally and socially responsible textile processing.
The GOTS vision is that organic textiles will become a significant part of everyday life, enhancing people’s lives and the environment.
Its mission is the development, implementation, verification, protection, and promotion of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This standard stipulates requirements throughout the supply chain for both ecology and labor conditions in textile and apparel manufacturing using organically produced raw materials. Organic production is based on a system of farming that maintains and replenishes soil fertility without the use of toxic, persistent pesticides and fertilizers. In addition, organic production relies on adequate animal husbandry and excludes genetic modification.
On-site inspection and certification of processors, manufacturers, and traders performed by independent specially accredited bodies is the basis of the GOTS monitoring system to provide a credible assurance for the integrity of GOTS-certified textiles.
Certification bodies must demonstrate their qualification and expertise in the field of organic textile quality assurance before their approval in an accreditation process specifically developed for GOTS. Accreditation is conducted by a valid accreditation body such as the main partner for this process, International Organic Accreditation Services (IOAS). GOTS approved certifiers must adhere to defined requirements related to the qualification of staff, advanced training, content of their inspection protocol, and other related quality aspects.
We are proud to use GOTS certified organic Pima cotton in all our loungewear. To learn more visit https://www.global-standard.org.
