How To Make Your Home Eco-Friendly

The process of living a more sustainable lifestyle can seem daunting at first, but when you think about just changing one thing at a time, it feels more manageable. In our last post about sustainable living, we highlighted five tips for a place to start: recycle, use a reusable water bottle, use rags over paper towels, use reusable grocery bags, and avoid passive electricity.  Today, we want to give you five more tips for sustainable living.

  1. Compost - composting is a really great way to use your scraps and eliminate food waste. Nearly 40% of food supply ends up as waste. 40%!!!
  2. Non-toxic Cleaners - using non-toxic cleaning products not only improves the quality of your home’s air, but also many non-toxic cleaning products come with reusable bottles. Branch Basics is a great, affordable option. Use their concentrate to make a variety of cleaners, like all-purpose, laundry detergent, and streak-free window spray.
  3. Air Purifiers - speaking of air quality, get a good air purifier to ensure that you and your family aren’t breathing in household toxins, like smoke, dust, pollen, pet dander, dust, and more. The Air Doctor is an energy efficient option which is a big plus!
  4. House Plants - plants like the snake plant are another way to purify the air in your home. If you’re worried about taking care of yet another thing, many of the plants are easy to care for. English Ivy, Chinese Evergreen, Peace Lily, Spider Plant, the list goes on and on.
  5. Use Dryer Balls - no more dryer sheets for us eco-friendly folks! Dryer sheets contribute to waste in landfills and they are an unnecessary expense! If you want the scent boost that dryer sheets offer without the extra money and waste, consider using dryer balls with a few drops of essential oils! For under $20, you will replace your dryer sheets for life!
